Welcome to UNU OpenCourseWare

UNU Building

Advancing knowledge for human security, peace and development

The United Nations University formally joined the OpenCourseWare (OCW) Consortium on 24 May 2006 and became a member of the Japan OCW Consortium on 26 March 2008.

The UN University is committed to the development of this OCW website that showcases the training and educational programmes implemented by the University in a wide range of areas relevant to the work of the United Nations.

We hope you find this UNU OpenCourseWare portal valuable whether you are a student looking for some extra help, a faculty member trying to prepare a new course, or just interested in learning more about a topic that interests you.

The UNU OpenCourseWare portal does not grant credits or degrees, and does not provide access to faculty. Rather, UNU OCW gives you open access to the materials used in a variety of courses.

Konrad Osterwalder

Rector, United Nations University

"The open educational resource movement (of which OCW is a part) is an important new trend supporting innovation in education and greater access to knowledge. The UNU is delighted to be able to make a modest contribution by openning up the materials produced through educational programmes and capacity building activities. It is my hope that other UN agencies will follow this example and further add to the growth of OERs globally.

As a member of the OCW Consortium, the UNU is committed to offering support and guidance to universities in the developing world seeking to share their courses and to develop their own OCW portals."

UNU OCW Steering Committee Members

A steering group, bringing together members from across the UNU, was established at the beginning of 2007. The current members include:

Brendan Barrett (main UNU focal point in the OCW Consortium)
Tomasz Janowski
Adegboyega Ojo
Elsa Estevez
Hanneke van Lanvieren
Adeel Zafar
Luc Soete

If you're wondering where to start, try the list of research and training centres/programmes on the left of this page, or go to the full list of courses. We've also provided answers to several questions about UNU OpenCourseWare in our Frequently Asked Questions.

Once you've had a chance to look around, we would like to hear your feedback.
